Text Box: Our Miscellany Is Soon To Be Completed Text Box: Holy Cross Day Text Box: The Reverend Shaw Phoenix, CCS Text Box: We are pleased to announce that The Reverend Shaw Phoenix, CCS, has been installed as the Abbess of the Community of Christ the Sower. When re-founding the Order, we titled the chief Pastor among us simply as the Pastor. Unfortunately, since we also commission lay pastors among us, that Text Box: scheme led to confusion. When co-founder and first Pastor Reverend Phoenix resigned temporarily to deal with domestic issues, we styled the replacement officer as the Rector of our Order. Unfortunately this lead to some confusion also, as most people seem to assume that a Rector is de facto the head Text Box: Priest of a parish. After querying the membership, it was decided that Abbess is a name and a title that people relate well to, it being what they expect from the leader of a religious community and, given its parental and pastoral meaning, was well suited to our needs. The Reverend Phoenix was installed Text Box: the Crucifixion, these days celebrate the cross itself, as the instrument of salvation. In the Anglican Communion it is called Holy Cross Day, a name also used by Lutherans. The feast commemorates the Text Box: finding of the True Cross in 325 during a pilgrimage to Jerusalem by St. Helena, the mother of the Roman emperor Constantine I. The date used for the feast marks the dedication of the Church of the Holy Text Box: In the Christian liturgical calendar, there are several different feasts known as Feasts of the Cross, all of which commemorate the cross used in the crucifixion of Jesus. While Good Friday is dedicated to the Passion of Christ and Text Box: streamlines our administrative procedure and provides, with our prayer book, a comprehensive guide to our worship, faith and practice. It also provides an additional Text Box: We have almost completed our Miscellany, which incorporates the Holy Rule, Constitution and Customary into one document, including notes, commentary and additional themes. This Text Box: opportunity for outreach to interested persons who write or call requesting more detailed information.
